Total Hip Replacement #2 – 4 week update

OK, so I skipped a week, but it’s pretty much “second verse, same as the first”, but with vastly quicker recovery, which is still baffling.

I’ve only had one trip out in the wheelchair (returning it Friday) and moved onto one crutch whilst out and about in week 3. I’m still walking around the house without crutches but definitely need them outside, long distances are a bit tiring.

I went a bit mad this past weekend and did a few walks, but ended up paying for it, a lot of knee and muscle pain. I tackled those by taking a couple of doses of codeine, and was reminded a couple of days later why I said I wouldn’t :-s (I shat a brick)

I’m now able to get up and down from the floor easily, so started doing some planks and press-ups, the first bit of exercise in weeks, apart from the rehab exercises which, of course, I’ve been neglecting now I’m up and about. I will endeavour to do them today, but I am still doing all the bed exercises.

I am seriously looking forward to getting back to the gym and training legs; the atrophy hasn’t been as bad this time, probably 3/4 the size of the other leg instead of 2/3. It’s still noticeable though, but gym’ll fix it (ha ha).

Sitting down for prolonged periods isn’t fun, reclining is definitely better. I’m back to work on the 8th April, so I’m sure I will be better by then; it’s all about goals :-)
